Six days later, with the aid of his cane, Dylan stepped off the elevator followed by Wyatt, Maura and the kids. He wore a new navy suit, a crisp white shirt and a blue silk tie that felt as if it was strangling him inch by inch. He’d even had his hair trimmed, and when Brenna came into view, he knew all the hassle was worth it. She stole his breath away.

Today, she was all soft and feminine…and beautiful in her ivory dress. He felt a sudden stirring and had to shake away the feeling. Gripping a florist box, he started toward her.

Brenna looked up as he approached. Her auburn hair was pulled up on her head with tiny flowers tucked into the curls. Her golden-brown eyes were wide and fearful as a skittish filly.

“Bren…” He stopped in front of her. “You’re beautiful.”

She released a breath. “Thank you. You look handsome.”

He noticed the crowd of people growing, then took hold of her hand and nodded behind him. “You think we can go over there so I can talk to you?”

If possible, she looked more nervous than he did. Together they started off toward a little alcove at the end of the hall.

“You’re doing real well with the cane,” she remarked. “Just remember not to overdo.”

“Stop playing therapist, Brenna,” he said. “I feel fine.”

“Sorry, it’s a habit.” Her gaze finally met his. “Look, Dylan, if you decided not to go through with the ceremony, I’ll understand. I mean, it was a crazy idea.”

Dylan’s finger covered her lips to quiet her. “I’m not changing my mind, Bren. I brought you over here so I can give you this.” He leaned his cane against the wall, then opened the box revealing a bridal bouquet of ivory roses and orchids, trimmed in lavender and surrounded with greenery and white ribbon.

“Oh, Dylan. It’s beautiful.” Her hands trembled as she lifted the flowers from the box. “Thank you.”

“You need to thank Maura. She put the bouquet together. She told me what each flower means, but I forget, so you’ll have to ask her.”

Brenna could hardly believe Dylan’s sweet gesture. “I will when I thank her.” The elevator chimed and more of the Randells stepped off. “This is turning out to be a little bigger than I expected.”

Dylan glanced toward the crowd. “Once I told Maura, things got out of control.”

It was all so overwhelming. “There’s still time to back out,” she said.

“How can I convince you I don’t want to back out?” He smiled. “Maybe there is a way.” He took her by the arm and drew her close. Dylan’s gaze locked on hers just as he lowered his head, then his mouth touched hers, gently. Slowly the kiss deepened as his arm came around her, drawing her against him. The contact drove every rational thought from her head and she grabbed hold of his jacket to keep from sliding to the floor. Finally, hearing someone calling to them, they broke apart.

They looked around to find Wyatt.
